Berthoud Sweeps The Garden City Invitational


It was a clean sweep for the Berthoud boys and girls on Friday afternoon at the inaugural Garden City Invitational.

The boys kicked it off with Berthoud taking home the team title in a near perfect score of 16 points. They were led by Nick Williams who's wire-to-wire win was the first of his career and his winning time of 18:38 is right on par with his personal best.

Following him were teammates Daniel Hatton in 19:13, Evan Torres in 19:30 and Afton Cooper in 19:32. Brodie Wright of Roosevelt finished in fifth and was the lone athlete inside the top-10 that wasn't from Berthoud.

One the girl's side junior Olivia Krueger, formerly of Thompson Valley, also took home a wire-to-wire win in 19:37, as she and teammate Jaycee Williams (19:51) went 1-2 to lead the Spartans to a team win. Hana Husmann of St. Mary's was third across the line in 20:28, and she started the scoring for the Wildcats.

Ellie Sundheim (fourth), Josie Diffendaffer (fifth), and Gabby Hernandez (ninth) were the final three scorers for Berthoud as they finished with a final team score of 21 points.

Chloe Callendar (fifth), Claire Qualls (eighth), Eva Pacheco (11th) and Millie Brophy (12th) were the final four scorers for St. Mary's as they finished with 38 points.
