Day two of the 3A Metro League Championships was filled with a tight team race, the successful execution of a plan and a champion for the first time since 2011.
Jefferson Academy's Jacob Crookston was the only boy that dipped under the 17:00 today running 16:57. But the important part was the effort him and his teammate Evan Mills put in from the first mile on. Crookston separated himself from Skyview's Jack Lee who finished second, 17 seconds back in 17:14. Mills was the third place finisher in 17:37 and was the last boy under the 18:00 threshold.
Machebuf's Benedict Siegel was fourth overall in 18:05. The biggest finish of the day came from Jefferson Academy's freshman Sean Beasley. He finished in the fifth spot and did so from the second wave. His finish gave them the leg up on Faith Christian in the team title.
Faith Christian's Joshua Judson and Zach Morris were both top-10 (6th and 9th) but the Jaguars responded with Noah Douglas in 13th giving them four scorers before the Eagles had three.
The 3-4-5 scorers for the Eagles all finished before JA's number five, but the damage had already been done.
Jefferson Academy took home the team title with a score of 58 points to 77 for Faith Christian. The battles for 2-3-4 were decided by 22 points with Kent Denver in third with 82 and Prospect Ridge in fourth with 99.
