The Colorado State T&F Championships 4A Preview

On paper the sprints look like a two-man battle between Braylon Fenderson and Justin Blanton. They're the top-two seeds in the 100 and the 200.

Fenderson heads to Jeffco as the top-seed in the 100 with a 10.86 PR, while Blanton is just three-hundredths of a second back with a 10.89 PR. Paul Agbo could shake things up, however - he's ranked No. 3 with a 10.94.

The 100 final is scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m.

The 200 looks similar, with Fenderson and Blanton as the lone sub-22 sprinters so far. Fenderson has run 21.84, while Blanton has run 21.94.

Blanton is entered in the 400 as well, and once again at the No. 2 seed. He'll have Andrew Muncy to battle around the track. Both have run under 49 seconds this fall, with Muncy's 48.59 on top of the rankings. Blanton has run 48.78.

On the topic of challenging triples: Zane Bergen.

The state cross country champion is entered in the 800, 1,600, and 3,200. He's a big favorite to claim the 800 - his 1:53.71 is just under two-seconds ahead of the field. The 1,600 and 3,200, however, look like they could be tight battles.

Jackson Shorten tops the 1,600 rankings heading to State with his recent 4:11.77 PR. Bergen is the only runner within two-seconds.

Of additional note: Shorten and Bergen are juniors - we've got another year of great races ahead of us!

Grahm Tuohy-Gaydos is the top seed in the 3,200 with a 9:15.21 clocking. Though, there are five runners within six-seconds. In addition to Shorten and Bergen, who have run 9:15.99, and 9:16.24, there's Erik Le Roux, who has run 9:19.07, Simon Saia, who has run 9:19.19, and James Overberg, who has run 9:20.99.

Two weeks ago Le Roux held the edge over Tuohy-Gaydos at the RunningLane Track Championships in Alabama, where both dipped under nine minutes.

Depending on how this race plays out, there could be a pretty wild final lap...

The 3,200 final is scheduled for Thursday at 9 a.m.

In the field events Eddie Kurjak headlines. The Longmont senior will be eyeing a triple.

Kurjak the heavy favorite to claim the high jump, where he's already cleared 6-11. His state-leading 6-11 is also a US No. 12He looks to have competition in the long jump however. He's the No. 1 seed with a 22-9 leap, which is one-inch ahead of Daryon Wilson PR of 22-8. Kurjak is also the No. 1 seed in the triple jump, where he's gone 46-5.75 this season.

On the topic of sweeping, Avery Shunneson will look for a double in the throws. He's the top seed in the shot put with a 57-5, and a huge favorite in the discus, which he's tossed a US No. 6 of 196-8 this season.

In 2019 the team title came down to the 4x400s, and it ended in dramatic fashion

On paper Niwot looks to be in prime position to defend their title, however. Beyond them, it looks close. Longmont, Roosevelt, Mountain View, Air Academy, Cheyenne Mountain, and Central (GJ) could be in the mix.
