Hustling At The Cheyenne Mountain Stampede

As mentioned a few pages ago, the boy's 3A race was one of the most exciting battles of the day.

In almost identical fashion of the 2A race, Branden Davis pressed the pedal to the floor through the middle-mile, while Henry Ilyasova gave chase from a few seconds back.

Davis seemingly controlled the remainder of the race, as the gap between him and Ilyasova remained.

The Lamar senior entered the Norris-Penrose Stadium with Ilyasova about seven-seconds back. Davis took the victory, finishing in 16:21 - a course-best by about 40-seconds for him. Ilyasova took second in 16:28.

Alamosa ran away with the team race. They packed their entire top-five into the top-10 overall spots, tallying 34 points. Manitou Springs took second with 67 points, while Banning Lewis finished third with 104.

While the boy's race was mostly close, Leah Hill made sure the girl's race was anything but.

The DSST Montview senior ran early, and captured her second consecutive victory of the season, running 19:46.

Over a half-minute back, Sarah DeLaCerda was a clear runner-up, finishing second in 20:23. Another half-minute back Kaylie Bookout finished third in 20:52. Elizabeth McQuitty also dipped under 21 minutes, finishing fourth in 20:59.

The Alamosa girls made it a sweep of 3A - they were even more dominate than their boy's squad. They put their top-five in the top-seven, tallying an impressive 21 points. Faith Christian took second with 79 points, while Moffat County took third with 90.
