Buena Vista's Zaila Smith made no contest of the girl's 2A race at the Cheyenne Mountain Stampede.

The first week of September was loaded with quality and quantity... 

With the return of big invitationals, we're seeing a ton of depth in meets.

Let's get into it, here are the highlights of the highlights. 

We'll start with the Arapahoe Warrior XC Invitational, which played host to a ton movers and shakers in the latest state rankings. 

Emily Lamontagne continued to impress. The Arapahoe junior sliced another 13 seconds off her Colorado No. 1, running a personal best of 17:37. Likewise, Aidyn Woodall joined the Sub-18 club, running a massive PR of 17:50 to finish second. 

On the topic of running PRs, Dalton Kaines took about 18-seconds off his to win the boy's race in 15:36 - that's a CO No. 3. Bryce Reeburgh was eight-seconds back in 15:44 for the runner-up spot.

Four of the top-nine times among the boy's all-classification rankings were run here, and four of the top-six among the girl's all-classification rankings.

The other big meet of the week was the Cheyenne Mountain Stampede (Pre-State), which ran much like the state schedule, splitting up every classification. 

The fastest times of the day came out of the 4A races, where Bethany Michalak cruised to a 17:55 opener, and Evan Kraus soloed a 16:02 for his third-consecutive win of the season.

The Legacy Lightning Invitational saw quite a few fast performances as well. 

Denver East freshman Rosie Mucharsky continued chopping off massive time from her PR. Mucharsky nearly joined the Sub-18 club in the second race of her high school career, running 18:00.00. Mia Mraz picked up her third runner-up finish of the season, running 18:23.

On the topic of almosts - Logan Gullett almost joined the Sub-16 club for the second time this season. He won the boy's race in 16:03 - the second time he's been within three seconds of the barrier. 

Down south at the Widefield Cross Country Invitational The Classical Academy's Kennedy McDonald opened her season with an impressive 19:05 clocking. Pine Creek's Emma Wilhelm was second in 19:17. TCA's Chandler Wilburn made it a sweep of the individual races, winning the boy's title in 16:15.

Up north in Wyoming Colorado was well represented at the Wyoming Cross Country Invitational. Liberty Common's Isabel Allori won the girl's race in 19:08, which was just ahead of the the Niwot duo of Olivia Alessandrini and Bella Nelson, who ran 19:10, and 19:18.

Jackson Shorten started a streak of his own, picking up win No. 2 of his season in 15:48.
