Cheyenne Mountain senior Joseph Kirwan won the 400 at the Harrison Panther Invitational in a 51.05.
The second week of Colorado's track & field season clearly out-did the first. We're barely two weeks into the season and it seems like plenty of athletes are finding their stride - and if they're just getting started (most likely) then we have some big, big weeks and months ahead of us...
Editor's Note: You might need a few cups of coffee for this recap - there was plenty to talk about.
Let's get into it, here are the highlights of the highlights...
The Rangeview Raider Invitational played host to some impressive performances.
Kaeli Powe and Natalie Rue battled in the horizontal jumps, with Powe coming out victorious on both occasions. Powe won the long jump with a leap of 17-9.5, which was just ahead of Rue's 17-6. Powe also won the triple jump in an All-Classification No. 1 of 37-2, while Rue leapt to a 36-5.5, which is a No. 2 mark in the event.
Keeping with the theme of two-person battles, Connor Kennedy and Reuben Holness took the 800 down to the line. Kennedy won the event in 1:56.48, which if we turn those final two numbers around, Holness was second in 1:56.85.
The North Fork girl's sprint medley squad made some noise at the Delta Panther Invitational. North Fork ran 1:54.3 for the No. 1 time in 3A.
And on the topic of making noise, Nadhia Campos put the state on alert at the Harrison Panther Invite. The Vanguard freshman won the 1,600 in a 3A No. 1 of 5:12, and won the 800 in a 3A No. 4 of 2:22.61. In the girl's field events Jada Miller and Isabella Coscetti battled in the triple jump, with Miller taking the victory with a leap of 36-2, to half-inch by Coscetti's 36-1.5.
On the topic of leaping far - Elijah Inama won the boy's long jump with a 22-6 mark, while Xavier Freeman won the shot put in an All-Classification No. 1 mark of 54-11.

The Murray Kula Invitational had perhaps the most depth of the week - thee were a staggering number of top-tier performances to come out of this meet.
Niwot's Bella Nelson and Madison Shults went 1-2 in the 1,600, with Nelson taking the W in 5:07.69 to Shults' 5:07.95. And sticking with that Niwot 1-2 theme, Olivia Alessandrini and Sarah Perkins took the top-two spots in the 3,200, with Alessandrini winning the event in 11:06 to Perkins' 11:12. Add that Niwot's 4x800 squad ran a state-leading 9:34.
In the 800 Jaycee Williams and Cadence Lapp battled their way to the top-two times in the state, with Williams claiming the No. 1 with a 2:14.56 clocking, while Lapp was a second back in 2:15.51.
In the throws Kajsa Borrman dominated the discus with a toss of 137-1. Borman also finished second in the shot put behind Laura Davis's 38-5.5 winning toss.
Meanwhile Brooke Naughton came away with two victories, claiming the high jump in a state-leading 5-8, and the long jump in 17-8.25.
The pole vault saw the return of Lilly Nichols. The 5A defending state champ won the event with a 12-6 clearance, while Katie Wrona finished second in 12-0 - a half-inch off her personal best, and good for a 3A No. 2.
For the boys Grayson Arnold continued his ascension to the top of the sprint world. The Holy Family senior won the 200 in a PR of 21.81 for an All-Classification No. 1.
Going way up in distance Connor McCormick proved his early fitness, winning the 3,200 in 9:24.07. Dalton Kaines and Dominic Warner finished six-seconds back in 9:30.95, and 9:30.98.

Editor's Note: Break for coffee No. 3.

And sticking with stellar performances in the throws, Brooke Franke won the discus at the Mercury Track & Field Invite with a toss of 130-6 - that's a 4A No. 1. For the boys Chrisly Kelly-Cannon showed that we've got a showdown brewing in the 3A 200 - Kelly-Cannon ran 21.90 for a3A No. 2.
And speaking of battles, there was quite the girl's 1,600 race at the Rifle High School Invitational. Tristian Spence and Ella Hagen needed all 1,600 meters to determine a winner - Spence took the W here in 5:08.71, which was just ahead of Hagen's 5:09.90.
The BHS,CHS,FHS,MHS Quad Meet may be a mouthful of a meet name, but it saw some stellar performances. Julia Pattison took that indoor fitness outdoors, winning the 100 in 12.17 - a PR, the 200 in 25.35, and the 400 in 57.21 - a PR. Pattison is currently on top of all three events in the All-Classifications.
In the field, and in the pole vault Olivia Kosanovich claimed the event with a 11-0 clearance.
Meanwhile the highlight out of the Thornton Early Bird has to Legacy's sprint medley relay - the won the event in a 1:54.37 clocking - that's an All-Classification No. 2.
NoCo Series #1 might of had to move from last week to this week, but it seems worth it - Katie Wrona won the pole vault with an 11-6 clearance, while Jacquelyn Mendoza won the shot put in 37-8.75.
Editor's Note: Bare with us -- some of the out-of-state performances are still being processed.
