Colorado Future Stars: Oliver Horton

In this week's edition of Colorado Future Stars we'll be taking a look at recent freshmen performances...

Colorado (if you haven't already) meet Oliver Horton.

We've mentioned the Coronado freshman a few times in recent weeks, and we finally have a sweet photo to accompany his feature here.

While Horton's high school career has been very short to date, he's been on fire throughout.

Most recently he won the Coronado Cougar Classic in 15:45.

The win marked his second victory of his high school career (it undoubtedly won't be his last.)

Two weeks earlier he torched a new Coronado school record at the Liberty Bell Cross Country Invitational, running 15:10 - as mentioned previously, that also made him the fastest freshmen on the course, ever.

What makes that previous statement hold all the more gravity is the fact that Colorado soil record holders Parker Wolfe, along with Cole Sprout, also raced on this course.

Their freshmen times?

Wolfe ran 17:11. Sprout ran 16:01.

Clearly,  he's in (front of) good company...

Another crazy stat to add: Horton's 15:10 actually leads the freshmen class by 21-seconds - Summit's Jay McDonald ran 15:31 this year at Liberty Bell.

Add that Horton is currently the fastest runner in 4A.

Last year he won the Colorado Middle School State Cross Country Championship, running 11:32 for 3,500-meters. He went on to run eight-grade PRs of 4:28 in the 1,600 at lower elevations.

Quick Takes

Benjamin Adams - Mountain Vista - He recently finished eighth at the Dave Sanders Invitational in 16:02.

Delaney Reuter - Eaton - She recently won the 2A/3A race at the St. Vrain Cross Country Invitational in 18:48.

Mariah Hook - Air Academy - She recently ran 17:10 for thee--miles at the 42nd Annual Woodbridge Cross Country Classic.

Izzy Schimmelpfennig - Timnath - She recently finished second in the 2A/3A race at the St. Vrain Cross Country Invitational in 19:30.
