Katie Fankhouser (right) and Quin Gregg (left) return as the State Champion, and Runner-up.
Next year's race looks eerily similar to this year, and that's because eight of the top 10 return, lead by 2018 state champion Katie Fankhouser, and her Lyons teammate Quin Gregg. The duo were a runaway 1-2 this year.
And like this year, we'll have one state champion battling another, as Helen Cross is the No. 3 returner.
When diving into the numbers a little more, it's clear that next year's race is simply going to be stacked - 20 of the top 26 from this year return.
And in the team race Lyons look like a clear favorite with Fankhouser and Gregg, and their No. 3, Hannah Thomas, as the No. 10 returner.
On paper the question isn't so much who the favorite is, that much is clear, the question is in the battle for second.
This year's runner-up, Platte Canyon, returns five of six, just like this year's third-place squad, Soroco. Both squads will be needing to fill a hole within their top three, however, which is where Buena Vista may be the team to keep up eye on.
Buena Vista returns just three of their top six, but they return their top three, which comprise of two freshmen and a sophomore.
