Rifle's Sarah Wagler did everything she could to break up the Steamboat Springs trio of Maggi Congdon, Winter Boese, and Dasha Kuznetsova. Congdon and Kuznetsova took the pace out hard from the beginning, and Wagler went with them.
At the mid-way point, Congdon broke away from her teammate and Wagler had slipped off the pace, only to be joined by another Sailor, Winter Boese. Basalt's Sierra Bower and Moffat County's Makenna Knez followed behind them.
Running a strong second half, Boese broke away from Wagler and caught Kuznetsova for second. Kuznetsova held off a final charge by Wagler, thus securing a 1-2-3 sweep for Steamboat. Bower and Knez filed in behind for the next positions.
Congdon's time of 18:38.4 was the top ladies mark of the day. The sweep of the top individual places helped Steamboat secure the team title with 44 points. Moffat County, Gunnison, and Aspen advanced their teams as well.
