Monday Recap: March Madness Across The Country

James Overburg was a big highlight of the Kokopelli Real Training Vista Nation Valor Winter Track Series 2.

My apologies for the several hours of delay with this recap - it typically runs Monday Mornings.

As it turns out, it's quite exhausting to drive to Phoenix, Arizona and back over the span of just a few days...

This time a year ago the March Madness that existed had nothing to do with basketball, or sports, but this year there were a ton of great performances that spanned the country.

Here are the highlights of the highlights...

Gavin Schurr took a few giant steps up ladder among Colorado's track royalty. The Fairview senior ran a US No. 1 10.36 in the 100 at the NSAF USA Meet of Champions in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. His time is the third-fastest ever in the event by a Colorado high schooler.

On the other side of the country several of Colorado's best distance stars toed the lined at the Sundown Track Series #3 in Queen Creek, Arizona.

Caleb Boutelle highlighted on the boy's side of the competition. The Pine Creek senior ran a big personal best of 4:13.88 for the full mile - that's a 4:12.30 1,600. Currently his mile is No. 13 in the countryJoshua Medina was a stride behind, running a PR of his own - a 4:14.73 clocking for a full mile - that's No. 18 in the country. Alex Baca was the third Coloradan in the race. The Gunnison senior ran 4:20.65 for a full mile.

On the girl's side of the competition Katelyn Maley continued to impress. The Basalt sophomore ran 4:49.03 for a full mile - that's No. 6 in the country. Her 1,600 split was an impressive 4:47.25.

Alan Versaw was on site at the Kokopelli Real Training Vista Nation Valor Winter Track Series 2 and recapped the meet here: Take Your Pick Of Highlights: Kokopelli, Etc., Invitational.

A big highlight of the meet came from James Overberg, who ran away with the 3,200 in a stellar 9:23. Grayden Rauba also dipped under 9:30, running 9:29.

Another great performance came from Harrison Witt, who clearly enjoys running two laps. The Mountain Vista senior blitzed the field with a state-leading 1:53.60.

For the girls Madison Shults stood above the rest with a 2:15.84 clocking to win the 800 over Mia Prok, who finished a second back in 2:16.

Andrew Versaw was on site at the Black and Gold Invite, and he captured a ton of great video footage from the meet here: Black And Gold Videos
