Niwot Cleans Up At A Scorching Boulder County Championships

Among the (many) highlights of the day was Taylor James

The Niwot senior claimed the meet record in the 200, running a 4A No. 1 of 24.64 - which is also a personal best. James also won the 400 in 56.12, - a 4A No.1, and finished second in the 100 in 12.84. Niwot teammate Margaret Gillett won the 100 in 12.55.

And James wasn't the only Niwot runner rewriting the record books - Madison Shults dominated the 800, running a 2:11.83 meet record.

Editor's Note: the Niwot girls currently own 4A No. 1 marks in every individual track event minus the 100, and all the relays.

Despite the sizzling 90-degree heat, Lucca Fulkerson soloed a 5:02.78 victory in the 1,600, while Mia Prok made an 11:07.64 3,200 look like an afternoon stroll.

Per the trend of winning, and claiming meet records, Kimora Northrup won two events, and claimed two meet records - she won the 100 hurdles 14.71, and the 300H in 43.32.

And if all of these individual victories and meet records weren't a big enough hint, if definitely translated into a relay victory in a meet record. Niwot's 4x400 capped their banner day in a 4A No. 1 3:48.66 meet record.

Off the track, and away from the relays, athletes from other schools shined.

Fairview sophomore Olivia Kosanovich started the day as a 5-1 high jumper. By the end of it she owned the Boulder County high jump title - in a 5A No. 5 and big PR of 5-4

The pole vault was a hotly contested event.

Freshmen and sophomores highlighted here. Silver Creek sophomore Megan Kelleghan won the event with a 12-9 clearance. Broomfield freshman Lilly Nichols took second in 12-3, while Peak to Peak freshman Kourtney Rathke and Kosanovich cleared 11-9.

The official tally at the end of the day had Niwot on top with a staggering 236 points. Broomfield finished second with 86, while Erie was third with 78 - just ahead of Longmont's 76.
