Davis Hume cleared 15-8 for a new personal best in the pole vault.

Where to start?

There were a ton of great performances across the board - and it's only February. While the official outdoor track season is still a few months away, plenty of athletes are taking advantage of any opportunity to compete, and make gains. 

Like Davis Hume. 

The Chaparral senior continues to climb closer and closer to the sun. Hume opened his 2021 season with a 14-9.25 in the pole vault. The mark was just shy of his 15-2.75 outdoor personal best from last year. But then he found a way to consistently reverse gravity, and soar just a little bit higher every time. Hume went 15-0 a week later, then 15-5.75 for a PR two weeks ago. And on Saturday he raised the bar once more - this time clearing 15-8.25 at the ATB 550 Pole Vault Gym Session #7. The mark is a Colorado No. 1, and a US No. 21.

At Heritage High the Colorado Elite Winter Series #2 drew yet another highly competitive crowd - and this time is wasn't as cold and windy. 

Symone Adams and Teagan Zwaanstra went stride for stride in the girl's 60. Adams took the W here, running 7.77 to Zwaanstra's 7.78.

The two met again the 200, and this time Zwaanstra got to taste victory - running 24.87. Adams was second in 25.08, just ahead of Taylor James, who ran 25.10.

Another insanely close race was the girl's 60 hurdles, where Casia Provencal took the win in 9.19, just ahead of Fabiola Belibi's 9.23.

Kel McDavid was the runaway winner in the girl's 400. She was the lone sub-60 clocking, running 57.42.

James topped the field in her signature event - the 800. The Niwot senior ran 2:14.00, just ahead of Maelynn Higgins, who ran a big PR of 2:15.37 to finish second.

Put the state on alert, there's another phenom with the last name Prok - Mia Prok's seventh-grade sister Anna Prok. Anna Prok won the 1,600 in 5:24.

The 3,200 was a battle into the final laps. Elliot Pribramsky took down a solid field, running 11:31, which was just ahead of Leah Futey's 11:34. Ella Johns was just five seconds back in 11:39.

In the long jump Belibi leapt to a new PR of 18-11 to take the event. Zwaanstra was second in 18-1. Meanwhile Melody Nwagwu took the triple jump with a stellar 38-2.5 leap.

Giavonna Meeks continues to impress. The Northfield junior won the weight throw with a toss of 55-9.25, which was just ahead of Amanda Opp's 53-2.5. The shot put looked nearly identical, with Meeks claiming the victory in 43-5. Opp was second with a toss of 40-3.25.

Onwards to the boys... 

Sterling Brassfield cracked the 7-second barrier to claim the 60, running 6.99. Keirryse Simpson was a close runner-up, running 7.03.

Jackson Price made huge gains in the 200. The Regis Jesuit senior cracked 22 seconds for the first time - by a lot. Price won the event in 21.57. And he wasn't the only one to PR big in the event - Simpson was barely a stride back in second, running 21.58. 

In the 400 Matthew Baskin turned heads. The Douglas County sophomore transfer from Texas won the event in 49.85. 

Speaking of turning heads: William Merrick. The Castle View senior ran into a world of his own in the 800, torching the field with a 1:56.8 clocking. 

Meanwhile, the 1,600 was a much-closer affair, with George Kelly cracking 4:30, running 4:29.25 for the win. Paul Knight was a second back in 4:30.31.

Another impressive performance came in the 3,200. Jackson Shorten, James Overberg, and Joshua Medina. Shorten proved his winter fitness with a 9:36 PR. Overberg was four seconds back in 9:40, and another four-seconds behind him was Medina, who ran 9:44.

That's about everything, right?

I thought there might have been one more thing... 

Oh right - Fairview senior Gavin Schurr dropped the fourth-fastest indoor 200 by a high schooler, ever. Schurr ran 20.84 for a US No. 2.
