The Mountain Vista girls took down US No. 13 Valor Christian at the Pat Patten Invitational.

It might be cooling off a bit outside, but it's clearly heating up on the course...

There were some battles of epic portions spanning the state this past weekend - individually, and team-wise. 

Let's get into it, here are the highlights of the highlights... 

We'll start at the Thornton Invitational in Thornton, where Denver East freshman Rosie Mucharsky cracked 18 minutes for the first time in her young career. Mucharsky won in a blazing 17:37 course record, which torched Emma Gee's previous record of 17:53 from 2013. Leah Hill took second here in 18:18, while Tatum Berg was third in 18:29.

Staying on the topic of personal bests and course records, Logan Gullett cracked 16 for the first time, running 15:35.10 to win the boy's race. That extra decimal was all that separated Gullett from also claiming a course record - it stands at 15:35.0. Rocky Mountain's Dalton Kaines and Tanner Halopoff also dipped under 16 minutes, running 15:55, and 15:56 to finish 2-3. 

Meanwhile Ella Johns and Henry Ilyasova ran away with the individual titles at the Doherty Spartan Invitational. Johns ran 18:14 for a 26-second victory over Adele Havlick, while Ilyasova ran 15:28 for a nine-second victory over Christian Groendyk. Matthew Edwards took third in 15:41.

On the topic of fast times, the Mead Stampede saw some impressive performances. Jackson Shorten picked up win No. 3 of his season, running a 15:39 course record. His time shattered the previous record by 18-seconds. Shifting the topic of domination, Allison Pippert demolished the girl's field, running 18:28 for a 1:16 victory. 

The Pantherfest played host to perhaps one of the fastest meets on the Western Slope. Defending 3A state champ Katelyn Maley and Jadyn Heil made a battle of the girl's race, with Maley getting the W here in 17:36.50, which was barely half-a-stride ahead of Heil's 17:36.60. That was a season-best for Maley, and sizable PR for Heil. Ella Johnson and Tristian Spence also dipped under 18 minutes, running 17:47, and 17:52.  

The boy's race saw a battle within the Middaugh household. Sullivan Middaugh and Porter Middaugh went 1-2, running 15:30, and 15:34. And not only did they get to share the 1-2 domination, but they got to share a day of PRs. 

On the topic of sweeping...

It was a George Washington sweep of the individual races at the Northfield Nighthawk Invitational. Anne Reilly ran 19:04 to win the girl's race over Taylor Buese, who ran 19:10, while Peter Neid ran away with the boy's title with a 16:29 clocking.

Meanwhile the Courser Lightning Invitational played hot to some great races. Aspen Fulbright ran away with an 18:20 victory, while Jade Allen finished second in18:35, which was just ahead of Nadhia Campos, who finished third in 18:41. Jonathan Wiggins took the boy's race in a massive PR of 16:16, which was 12-seconds ahead of Matthew Campos' 16:28 runner-up finish.

Bryce Reeburgh was the big highlight at the cleverly titled Jefferson Academy Jaguar Half-10 Invitational. The Golden senior picked up win No. 3 of the season, running 16:16. 

Clear on the other side of the state at the 4-Corners Classic Land Lambert was the name on the course. The Durango senior picked up his second win of the season, running 16:26. 

And then there was the Pat Patten Invitational.

As per the usual, Boulder played host to a slew of national-caliber battles, with a handful of nationally-ranked squads toeing the line in various lineups. 

Kaden Levings and Cheyenne Mountain came ready to take care of business, and that's exactly what they did. Levings ran 15:36 for a 10-second victory over Ty Garrett, who finished in 15:36. Drew Costelow also dipped under 16, running 15:52.

As Alyssa Noe - Prep sports reporter for BoCoPreps and the Boulder Daily Camera - noted from the finish: "Cheyenne Mountain took that whole pack-running thing to another level..."

Cheyenne Mountain proceeded to take the next four sports, finishing 4-5-6-7 to dominate the team race. 

In the girl's race Keeghan Edwards picked up her first big win in Colorado, and her second of her high school career. The Valor freshman battled with Emma Stutzman, and eventually prevailed, running the second-fastest time ever on the course - a 18:13 clocking. Stutzman was second in 18:23, which was just ahead of Niwot's Bella Nelson, who finished third in 18:26. Both Mountain Vista and Valor Christian ran without one of their top-five runners, and on this day Mountain Vista prevailed in the team race.
