Thrilling At The Broomfield Shootout

74...75...76...

Riley Stewart took crisp, business-like strides as she passed the starting line for the first time in the 3,200.

If the clock was telling spectators anything, it's that Stewart came to work.

She cruised by the mile in a time that would've won the event out-right, though she had another mile to go. Stewart raced on without a challenging shadow, save for her own, and made a 10:20 3,200 look easy.

Her CO No. 1 leads the state by over half-a-minute, and ranks No. 7 nationally - without an altitude conversion.

Emma Stutzman finished second in a solid 10:54 while Maggie McCleskey was third in 11:04.

Going way down in distance...

Julia Pattison put together a stellar triple, running 12.18 to win the 100, 24.78 to win the 200, and 56.89 to finish second in the 400 to Addie Pendergast's 56.18.

Doubling upwards in distance, Kinsey Christianson ran away with the win in the 800, running 2:13.86.

The 1,600 saw a four-lap battle between Maelynn Higgins and Shelby Balding. Higgins led much of the race, and endured a late-charge from Balding, though the Broomfield junior had another gear, and surged hard over the final 200 to win the event in 5:06.66 to Balding's 5:09.05.

The 100 hurdles was a tight race that went down to the line.

Fabiola Belibi and Regan Thorne were separated by five-hundredths of a second, with Belibi taking the victory in 14.63 to Thorne's 14.68.

Several hours later Belibi came back battle Kimora Northrup in the 300H. Belibi came away with the sweep of the hurdles, running 45.35 to Northrup's 46.44.

Meanwhile the long jump was decided by half-an-inch. Sky Thompson won the event with a leap of 17-8.2, which was just ahead of Mia Munoz's 17-8.2.

Kaeli Powe made it a Cherokee Trail sweep of the horizontal jumps, winning the triple jump with a leap of 38-0.5. Joy Nnantah was a close second in 37-7.2.

In the high jump Sierra Haberman and Preslee Moser both cleared 5-4.

In the battle between the state champions, Anna Willis cleared 13-0, and the competition to claim the pole vault. Megan Kelleghan took second in 12-5, and Kourtney Rathke was third in 12-0.

In the throws Augustine Hancock came away with the discus, tossing 127-10, while Hanah Sullivan won a tight battle with Sheridan teammate Nora Butler to win the shot put.
