Though Izzy Schimmelpfennig of Timnath High School has only completed two years of her high school career, she goes into her junior year with the top returning time in Class 4A. She also is the top returner from the state meet, where she finished 3rd overall. Her time of 17:44 puts her quite a ways ahead of the rest of the field and what makes Schimmelpfennig a big favorite is her ability to race well on the fast courses and on technical courses seen in her past seasons' results.
It seems based on time, this is Schimmelpfennig's title to lose, however, Raegan McRae of Cheyenne Mountain High School is riding a lot of momentum going into her junior cross country season. McRae was a few places back from Schimmelpfennig at the cross country state meet, but she closed the gap on her during the spring track season, running similar times to Schimmelpfennig.
