2021 is the season of Quality, and Quantity. 

Really.

With less than two weeks to the Colorado State Championships we've already seen five Colorado All-Classification state records fall (boy's 1,600 twice.) Add that there was an abundance of state-leading marks all over the place this past week.

It's dizzying to keep up. 

Really.

It feels like every time I'm looking in one direction to capture something big, something just as big is happening behind me.

For the second time this season two all-classification state records fell within two days of each other. 

Harrison Witt broke the boy's Colorado 800 state record Friday night at Liberty Bell, running 1:48.50, while Riley Stewart broke the girl's Colorado 1,600 state record Saturday night at Stutler Twilight, running 4:44.13.

For anyone trying to keep up - CHSAA will have to update the boy's 800, 1,600, and 3,200 state records, and the girl's 1,600. Editor's Note: Stat as of 9:00 a.m., June 14, 2021...

State records aside, it was a typical week of track and field in Colorado. Meaning - there were a ton of state-leading marks and eye-opening performances.

Here are the highlights of the highlights, of the highlights.

Down at the RunningLane Track Championships in Madison, Alabama Erik Le Roux and Grahm Tuohy-Gaydos dipped under nine minutes in the 3,200. Le Roux ran 8:57.44, while Tuohy-Gaydos was just two-seconds back in 8:59.26. Le Roux also ran 4:11.92 in the 1,600, while Bryce Reeburgh ran 4:12.07.

Back in Colorado Taylor James and Madison Shults turned heads in the 800 at the Stutler Twilight - both dipped under 2:09, with James taking the W in 2:07.77, and Shults a second back in 2:08.27 - that's a three-second personal best for the Niwot sophomore... Additionally Maelynn Higgins was just over 2:10, running 2:11.06. More highlights from the meet came from Brooke Naughton in the high jump - she cleared 5-9 for a state-leading mark, Anna Willis, who cleared 13-3 in the pole vault - another state-leading mark, Cameron McConnell, who ran 4:54.98 in that record-setting 1,600, and Ky Oday, who ran a state-leading 48.37 in the 400.

The Longs Peak/NCAC/Mile High League Meets was another meet that saw some eye-opening performances, like Jackson Shorten's 4:11.77 in the 1,600, and Becker Ell's 15-2 in the pole vault.

Likewise, the Jeffco 4A/5A League Championships saw Emma Stutzman with an impressive 1,600-3,200 double. Stutzman ran 4:57.84 in the 1,600, and 10:51.46 - just ahead of Taylor Whitfield's 10:51.84. Additionally, Camille Peisner had an impressive double of her own - she ran a state-leading 24.17 in the 200, and  55.06 in the 400. For the boys Michael Bennett's state-leading 37.62 in the 300 hurdles was a big highlight.

At the Liberty Bell Track and Field Invitational Kyairra Reigh dropped a state-leading 54.01 in the 400, while Carsen Bruns ran a state-leading 14.34 in the 110H. Meanwhile, Rhys Travis leapt to a state-leading 47-4 in the triple jump. Likewise, Agur Dwol leapt to a 41-4 US No. 4. Additionally, Avery Shunneson tossed 57-5.5 in the shot put.

Jordan Burnett was the big highlight that came out of the D Mountain Twilight. The South Park senior ran a CO No. 2 of 54.66 in the 400.

On the Western Slope Peyton Garrison went big at the Multi-League Championship Meet. The Coal Ridge junior ran 3A No.1s of 12.16 in the 100, 24.63 in the 200, and 57.46 in the 400.
