Colorado State Preview: Athletes To Watch In All Classes

Can DeBeque's Trevor Lewis recreate that 2021 magic?

A year ago he swept the mid-distance events at the 2021 Colorado State Track & Field Championships. He'll head to Lakewood with the No. 1 time in the 800 this year, though it appears he'll have competition with sweeping the distance events this year...

Heritage Christian Academy's Jack Nauman sits on top of both the 1,600 and the 3,200 rankings - by a lot. Nauman has run 4:33 in the 1,600, and 9:57 in the 3,200 - his 1,600 leads the state by six-seconds, while his 3,200 leads by 19-seconds.

On the topic of heading to Lakewood as a favorite, cue: DeBeque's Scottie Vines

Not only is Vines the No. 1 high jump in 1A with his 6-10 clearance, but he's tied for the No. 1 spot in all-classifications.

In the throws you'll want to keep an eye on Elbert's Zadie Mackey. She heads to Jefffco as a huge favorite to sweep the throws - she's tossed 139-4 in the discus, and 36-1 in the shot put this year.

Lone Star's Alivia Weathers has been a little quiet this year - so far - but she remains an athlete to keep an eye on. Last year she quadrupled at State, winning the 110H, 300H, triple jump, and the pole vault. That's not just perfection in one event, or on one day - that's perfection in four events spanning all three days. While she doesn't top any 1A rankings lists heading to Lakewood, she clearly knows how to bring the magic when it matters the most.
